WE HAVE BEGUN PLANNING FOR THE REALITY OF WHAT IS SURE TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS FIRE SEASON HERE AT THE SANCTUARY
The past few years have been some of the worst we have ever experienced on the West Coast. The air was filled with smoke and the skies were glaring orange. We were surrounded by three different fires on all sides. We were evacuating animals from our community and other sanctuaries and caring for them here under the constant threat of fire evacuation ourselves. We learned quickly how completely unprepared we were for such a disaster.
This year we need to be prepared. For the safety of the animals. For the safety of the sanctuary. And for the safety of our community who will need our support.
We need to purchase crates to transport our own animals in case of evacuation, as well as additional medications and medical supplies to accompany any evacuated animals. We need to purchase cattle panels, covers for temporary shelters, avian netting, and pet kennels to be able to stage our animals at a safe location in case of evacuation. And we need to perform some much needed maintenance and make some necessary improvements to our trailer to be able to safely transport animals in case of an emergency evacuation.
I know this is a big expense and a huge ask but it is absolutely necessary for the safety of the animals. Please help us keep them safe this fire season.
