WELCOME SPRINTER
Two weeks ago Helbard and I heard a bleat from outside our sanctuary gate and when we investigated we found this sweet little girl. She was just a baby so we thought she would be easy enough to approach. But we were wrong. This girl was fast and very fearful of humans. It took us over an hour of tracking her up and down hills through neighboring strawberry farms to catch up to her and by the time we got her Helbard had cracked two of his ribs lunging on the ground to secure her.
We found out that Animal Control had received many calls about her and had been pursuing her for two whole days. They took her into the Monterey SPCA where she was on a stray hold for fourteen days. It seemed clear that she had escaped from a farm. Her tail was docked and no one had been looking for her. So for two weeks we anxiously waited, checking in with the SPCA every day, worried that after all we did to rescue this girl she would still be legally required to return to a farm where she would likely become someone’s meal. But yesterday was her fourteenth day. So today we are going to pick her up and bring her home to the sanctuary!!
With everything we have been through, searching for a new property, and the price of hay higher than ever, we were not looking to add to our rescue. But this sweet girl rescued herself and showed up at our gate as if she somehow knew that this was a safe place. We have a lot of respect and admiration for animals who liberate themselves and we felt strongly that this should be her home.
She has two weeks left of quarantine before she will be able to meet her new flock but we are so excited to welcome her home.❤️
